What is Public Relations (PR)
PR is the practice of message development and the building and maintaining
of positive mutually beneficial relationships with the media and the general-public-at-large.
PR’s role in business is to promote the business or organization as an
entity through and by, communicating messages and defining:
- who you are
- what you do and offer your customers and the community
- why you do what you do
- how you do it
- why people should be doing business with you
Why use PR?
Proactive businesses know that in a competitive business environment, what
customers and the community-at-large think about a business depends not just
on the product or service but also on what image and message a business presents.
A positive image and effective message along side a superior product or service
is a recipe for success.
Public relations is an effective tool for communicating your businesses messages
to your audiences and PR publics. Effective, well-executed PR plans, strategies,
communications materials and promotions are the most powerful way for your business
to build a solid reputation, positive image, increase brand awareness, generate
clientele, and gain industry and community credibility.
Strategic public relations help differentiate your business from its competition
and allow your business to maximize its resources to generate a positive Return-On-Investment
(ROI) and maintain a competitive edge, as well as, achieve your business goals
and objectives.
Prosperous businesses do not rely on “a cheaper product” or “a
unique or great product” alone to remain ahead of the competition. Rather,
these businesses look at themselves from the outside in and develop well planned
out “road maps” to follow that keep them ahead of the pack and on
the road to success.
Every tactical move successful businesses make are part of an overall plan
and strategy that is carefully plotted out to build their brand awareness, raise
their business profile, take on their competition, attract new business and/or
investors, and that applies PR to gain industry respect and community credibility.
